Bright Ideas

Lumbee River EMC is proud to be one of North Carolina's 27 electric cooperatives that sponsor The Bright Ideas grant program. The program strives to improve education in North Carolina classrooms by awarding grants to teachers for innovative, classroom-based projects in grades K-12 that would not otherwise be funded. Since it began in 1994, the Bright Ideas program has awarded more than $9.6 million in grant money to North Carolina's teachers to sponsor more than 9,200 projects reaching 1.8 million students

The Rules

  • For North Carolina teachers in grades K-12
  • Teachers must include a budget, explain the creative elements, implementation, goals and evaluation of the project, and have approval from the school principal
  • Individual projects that could be funded up to $2,000
  • Open to all subjects
  • Teachers are limited to one grant proposal per year and are eligible even if they have received a grant before.
